·       Self assessment first

·       Positive first for safety

·       Specific and descriptive

·       Excellent starting point and fall back for safety

 Disadvantages:

·       Artificially separates the good from the different 

·       Discovers the agenda of the doctor on the tape late - not paralleling the consultation 

·       Can spend too long on the good: little time left for helping

·       Repetitious and takes too long 

·       In registrars’ minds, differently = bad, and the positive appears patronising
